Vanilla Bean Applesauce

One of the sweet surprises of Maine have been all of the apple orchards. The girls have loved stopping in for fresh apple cider donuts. Oh, I wish you could smell the scents as we walk in. Mmmmm. Those little girls don’t know how good they have it!

Many of the orchards are getting rid of last seasons crop to make room for late summer’s harvest. Perfect for making applesauce!

After peeling, coring and slicing a peck of apples, I added a 1/2 cup of water and a vanilla bean to the slow cooker. They cooked on high for about 3 hours. I sliced open the vanilla bean and scraped out the “caviar” before adding everything to the blender.

It was the most luscious applesauce EVER. Yes. EVER.
